Islamabad, May 22 (TNS): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah could not finalize name of for Caretaker Prime Minister, state-run media reported on Monday.
The duo met in Islamabad on Tuesday to discuss proposed names for Caretaker setup.
The meeting, held at the PM Office, lasted for over half an hour after which Shah left for Parliament House while the prime minister proceeded to chair an Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting.
Later, Syed Khurshid Shah told newsmen that their consultations remained inconclusive and they will meet again.
Speaking to media, Shah confirmed that no consensus could be reached during the meeting. He added that another round of consultations will be scheduled in a day or two. “We would try to finalise a name,” he said.
Although the government and opposition remain tight-lipped about the matter, names of Maleeha Lodhi, Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and Dr Ishrat Hussain have been doing the rounds as candidates expected to be elevated to the coveted slot of the caretaker PM.
