Pakistan, Malaysia reaffirm commitment to deepen bilateral relations

Islamabad May 23 (TNS): Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi called newly elected Malaysian counter-part Dr Mahathir Mohammad on Wednesday on telephone to congratulate him on Pakatan Harapan’s victory in 14th General Election, his assumption of office as Prime Minister of Malaysia and to exchange views on the issues facing the Muslim Ummah including Jammu & Kashmir and Palestine.

Prime Minister Abbasi appreciated the smooth and peaceful conduct of elections and transfer of power, reflecting the maturity of the Malaysian nation. The Prime Minister noted that the unprecedented success of Pakatan Harapan was a manifestation of people’s trust in Prime Minister Mahathir’s dynamic and inspirational leadership.

The premier also discussed Pakistan-Malaysia relations with Prime Minister Mahathir. He expressed keen desire to further strengthen bilateral relations by exploring and exploiting potential in diverse fields including economic, investment, energy, defence and tourism.

PM Abbasi underscored the need for exchange of high-level visits including parliamentary exchanges, to provide necessary impetus and direction to the bilateral relations. He extended an invitation to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir to visit Pakistan.

Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir thanked PM Abbasi for his wishes and affirmed his commitment to further strengthen and deepen bilateral ties.
