KARACHI May 28 (TNS): A least eight members of the same family were reportedly killed while two others were injured when a fire erupted in a house situated in Baldia Malang Goth area of the metropolis in the wee hours of Monday.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire broke out when a woman closed the door and allegedly set herself ablaze. The flame quickly engulfed the entire house, killing eight people including women and children.
The woman, Gulzara Bibi was said to be mentally unfit and she was receiving medical treatment for ‘her condition’ for the past two years.
After the incident, Police and fire brigade rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control while the bodies and injured were shifted to hospital for medico-legal formalities.
According to police sources, the deceased were identified as Nazia, Gulnaz Bibi, Zafar, Naila, Rehan, and Ruqaiya. Police have also launched an investigation.
