London, June 3 (TNS): England were dismissed for 363 in the second NatWest Test against Pakistan at Headingley – a lead of 189.
Pakistan wrapped up England’s first innings inside the opening hour of the third morning, but not before Jos Buttler had produced some explosive hitting in making an unbeaten 80.
England had resumed on 302 for seven and Pakistan’s hopes of making early in-roads were not helped by dangerman Mohammad Amir being discomforted by a shoulder injury.
However, Sam Curran soon fell for 20 on his 20th birthday as he edged Mohammad Abbas to Asad Shafiq at second slip, the dismissal confirmed by TV review.
Buttler went on the attack and became the first England batsman to pass 50, reaching the landmark by hooking Abbas for six.
It was Buttler’s eighth half-century in 20 Tests and he had made 80 from 101 balls, including 11 fours and two sixes, with Stuart Broad (two) and James Anderson (five) the final wickets to fall.
