Lahore, June 9 (TNS): The first monsoon rain of the season brought relief for citizens on Saturday after the rain drizzled in most parts of Punjab breaking a spell of an intense heat wave which had embraced the country.
The prominent cities of Punjab such as Sahiwal, Lahore, Jhang, Hafizabad were hit by dust storms and light rain, which was like a breath of fresh air for the People of Punjab.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has stated that rain is expected in different parts different Northern areas of Khyber Pakhtun Khwa, Multan, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, whereas hot and intense heat wave is expected in other parts of the country.
The PMD also said that Nothern areas of Punjab and KPK will receive more than average rainfall till July whereas Balochistan and Karachi will be hit by monsoon rain and storms during the month of August.
Dr. Ghulam Rasool who is the director general of the Met Department warned that big cities of the country may have to endure urban flooding in case of heavy rain.
