Scotland overcome England in thrilling ODI contest by 6 runs

Edinburgh, June 11 (TNS): Scotland defeated England in a thrilling One Dayer in Edinburgh on Monday, as they caused a historic upset by beating the No.1 team in the ODI world rankings.

The Sole one-dayer in Edinburgh turned out to be a mouth-watering contest as the three lions captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to field first.

The Scottish showed great resilience against the English seamers as Callum Macleod thwarted them all over the park and scored a, “once in a career” innings of 140* to put the Englishman on the backfoot, on the other end skipper Kyle Coetzer and George Munsey scored half centuries to support the heroic innings of Macleod.

Scotland posted a mountainous total of 371-5 to challenge England.

In reply England looked on the track of overcoming a massive target of 372 as they blasted the Scottish bowlers across the park in the powerplay overs with their trade mark aggressive approach.

However, Scottish bowlers, Evans, Watt and Berrington had other ideas as they took wickets in quick succession top dispatch the middle order, they grabbed 2 wickets each top clinch a historic win for their country.

Innings of centurion Jonny Bairstow’s turned out to be in vain as he could not get England over the line with his knock of 105 on the other hand Alex Hales was the only one with a half century to his name in the quest to chase the massive total.

Callum Macleod’s Herculean innings earned him the man of the match award as Scotland won the match by 6 runs in dramatic fashion.
