London, June 14(TNS): After a shock defeat against Scotland, the three lions returned to winning ways at the oval in a close-knit match in the first one-dayer of the five-match ODI Series on Wednesday.

The world champions Australia who have been recently hit by a ball tampering scandal won the toss and elected to bat first, however they were dismissed cheaply by the English bowlers as the whole team collapsed at meager total of 214 in the 47th over.

The only Bright spot in Aussies batting lineup was Glen Maxwell who scored a well fought 62.

Moeen Ali ripped through the top order and was England’s best bowler as he took 3 wicket along with Liam Plunkett.

However, in the runchase England made a mess of themselves as they were reduced to 38 for three, after a brilliant partnership between Eoin Morgan(69) and Joe Root (50)helped them inch closer to victory, but another middle order collapse reduced the English side to a nervy finish to the game.

All-rounder David Willey finished the match with a six as England won with six overs to spare.

Spin Allrounder Moeen Ali was named Man of the Match for his bowling figures of 3-43.
