Islamabad, June 19(TNS): Accountability court on Tuesday accepted the request of the former premium of the Country Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz seeking exemption from appearing before the court for his hearings of the corruption references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The former Prime Minister and his daughter are currently in London to look after the ailing Kulsom Nawaz and filed a plea to seek a seven day exemption, however, the court only granted them an exemption of four days.

Justice Bashir who led the hearings of the corruption references against Sharif and his daughter earlier asked the former counsel of the PML-N leader Khwaja Harris who appeared before the court today whether he came to the court to withdraw his power of attorney petition.

In reply Khwaja Harris said, “First, I have to file another petition. I have a right to know whether the court will hear the cases simultaneously or separately,”

On this the Accountability court judge said that the power of attorney petition of Khwaja Harris had been dismissed.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor Muzaffar Abbas than pointed out that, “We did not even object and the petition has been dismissed.”

During the proceedings the newly appointed counsel of Nawaz, Jahangir Jadoon asked the court that why it is delaying in announcing the judgment of the case, to which Justice Bashir responded that the court follows a proper procedure according to the law and those people should not comment who are not respondents.

The accountability court has now summoned the Joint Investigation Team head of Panamagate case, Wajid Zia who will be NAB prosection’s main witness pertaining to the Al –Azizia case.

NAB has filed three references in the accountability court following the verdict of the historic Panama Papers case, for which Nawaz and his daughter are appearing before the court.

The references trial started on September 14, 2017 and the references include cases related to Hill Metal Establishment, Al-Azizia Steel Mills, Avenfield properties of London and offshore companies including Flagship Investment Limited.
