Karachi, June 24 (TNS): A ‘deceased man’ is contesting the forthcoming general elections from Thatta, Sindh after eight years of his ‘death’.
Haji Zakir Hussain Kalatri, who ‘passed away’ as per documents including a death certificate and national identity card, has filed nomination papers for a provincial assembly seat as an independent candidate.
Reportedly, Kalatri was named in a fraud case at a police station in Karachi’s North Nazimabad for selling a property on falsified documents.
In order to legally bail himself out of the case, he faked his own death with the help of Thatta’s District Mirpur Bhoro’s union council. The death certificate also bares names of two witnesses who had testified to his demise.
