Lahore, July 4(TNS): Rescue official and police confirmed on Wednesday that the death toll in eastern Punjab has risen to 15 after heavy monsoon rains continued for a long spell of two days.

Lahore which has seen the heaviest spell of monsoon rains since in 40 years, gave a demonstration of flooding streets all across the city.

Local authorities told that most deaths were caused by electric wires and power plants and flood water caving in the homes of remote areas of Punjab.

Lahore which has been called as Paris of Pakistan by former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif gave a picture of Venice to the citizens as the whole city was submerged in water-floods and chaos.

Many students who had exams had to swim through water which was rising above waist-length to reach their schools and colleges.

In more than 35 years of their regime, the Punjab government has long struggled to tackle with monsoon rains which trigger flash-floods.
