NAB decides not to put election candidates behind bars until elections

Islamabad, July 4(TNS): National Accountability Bureau (NAB) said on Wednesday that it will not put election candidates behind bars until the polling day on July 25.

The NAB further said that it has seen the cases thoroughly against the PML-N leaders, which includes cases of former foreign minister Khwaja Asif.

NAB suspects that accused have been involved in a loss of Rs 19 billion to a national project.

The anti-corruption body have delayed the cases against Asif, Rana Afzal and Rana Mashood until the upcoming elections.

In wake of alleged corruption in projects by PML-N leaders, the NAB is holding an inquiry against a number of politicians.

The NAB arrested on Tuesday former chairman of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Jawed Hanif in an ongoing inquiry.

According to the bureau, the former chairman is accused of misuse of power and illegal appointments in the department which cost the government Rs2.80 billion.

On June 26, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore had arrested PML-N ticket holder Qamarul Islam from NA-59 Rawalpindi, in connection with Punjab Saaf Pani Company corruption case.
