ISLAMABAD, July 9 (TNS): The interior ministry on Monday denied placing Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur on a no-fly list.
Rejecting reports pertaining to the siblings being placed on a “stop list”, Interior Minister Azam Khan denied the existence of any such register.
“There is no stop list,” he said following the conclusion of a standing committee on interior affairs meeting. Khan, who also chairs the Exit Control List (ECL) sub-committee, also said the ministry had not received any directives barring Zardari and Talpur from travelling abroad.
Separately, an National Counter Terrorism Authority functionary briefed the committee on terror threats against politicians. Those at risk include Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) heavyweights, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chief Aftab Sherpao, Awami National Party (ANP) supremo Asfandyar Wali, Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed’s son Talha, former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Amir Haider Hoti and Akram Khan Durrani of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).
The Supreme Court summoned heads of three private banks and beneficiaries including Zardari and Talpur in connection with a case on dubious transactions executed using bogus accounts. The apex court initiated a suo motu proceedings after the recent airing of a report on the alleged money laundering.
