Islamabad, July 11 (TNS): Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), Engr Jawed Saleem Qureshi lauded tremendous initiative of Youth Parliament for the young Engineers of Pakistan. A delegation from Youth Parliament led by Engr. Ubaid Qureshi, (Federal Secretary General), met with the Chairman PEC. The delegation consisted of Engineers of different fields from different provinces. The agenda of this conference was the future of young engineers in Pakistan, hence, the major issues were discussed in immense detail. Delegation highlighted the challenges of Young engineers. Chairman, Pakistan Engineering Council, appreciated the efforts of Youth Parliament and agreed to announce Youth Parliament Professional Forum for Engineers. In this meeting, the future of the engineers was discussed in detail. Issues like Unemployment, Student Intake, Internship and Entry Test criteria of engineering were also discussed. The chairman cleared the misconceptions regarding unemployment. Chairman mentioned that the unemployment rate is picking up and it is a national issue. Although it is a national issue, but many people believe that PEC is responsible for unemployment; hwever that is not true. In previous era of PEC, bulk number of engineering program were started in different universities without fulfilling the education standards. Govt. is responsible for providing employment oppurtunities to every citizen. He said: PEC offered 12000 supervisory license and approved 25000 internships for the engineers in last 3 years. In his tenure, Pakistan has been declared as Full Signatory of the Washington Accord. Recently, Pakistan became signatory of International Professional Engineer Program (IPEA) through which Pakistani Professional Engineers got recognition at international level. He said that still we need to work hard to achieve excellence and to compete the world we must change our Engineering course curriculum and Governing body Election rules. In this way we would be able to provide opportunity to young engineers in Governing body. Washington Accord is a highly rigorous global standard on engineering education and accreditation system which grants substantial equivalence of degree which means that Pakistan has got international recognition and a place at par with top leading signatory countries of the world. A gross root level mobility is required to deliever actual benefits to the engineers. Through this forum, the engineers of Pakistan can make their own identity on an international level. PEC will offer 1 Credit hr. CPD courses free of cost to the Engineers member of Youth Parliament, He added. Ubaid requested chairman for young engineering interaction with Pakistan Engineering Council, he said it is misconception that PEC is governing body for Contractors and consultants only not for the engineers due to lack of awareness. Chairman agree and support this idea to cover gap between Engineers and PEC. An interactive session on “Expectations of young engineers from Pakistan engineering council”, with chairman, will be organized at the end of this month with. In that sessions different designations of forum like Convener, Dy convener and members of engineering forum will be announced by the chairman. This will provide the youth a great opportunity to interact with PEC officials. Session will cover the issues of universities graduate, PEC will brief on achievements.
