Senate denounces Peshawar blast

Islamabad, July 11 (TNS): Denouncing Peshawar terror attack, Chairman Senate on Wednesday sought report regarding suicide blast on Awami National Party’s corner meeting in Peshawar.

He directed Caretaker Interior Minister to apprise the House over the matter on Thursday.

Besides, the chairman directed all the four provincial chief secretaries to tell the Senate about the security arrangements they have made to ensure smooth election campaign of candidates.

Caretaker Interior Minister Azam Khan today informed the House that Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan has accepted responsibility of the yesterday’s suicide attack on Awami National Party leader in Peshawar.

Responding to the concerns shown by members of the House, he said a meeting of the apex committee has been called in Peshawar tomorrow to discuss the security situation. He said the prime minister and other security agencies will attend the meeting to decide a future course of action to ensure security of the people of Pakistan.

Azam Khan said National Counter Terrorism Authority has also convened a meeting with political leaders to discuss the security measures. He said the political leaders should also ensure implementation of code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Expressing grief over the martyrdom of ANP leader Haroon Bilaur in yesterday’s terrorist attack, he said Mr Bilaur was invited by some people for a tea party at 11 p.m. where the suicide bomber blew himself up and killed several others as well.

The Interior Minister urged the political leaders to inform the administration about their movement during election campaign as enshrined in ECP’s code of conduct so that proper arrangements can be done well in time to ensure their security.

Replying to a question, Azam Khan said name of former President Asif Ali Zardari was placed on the Exit Control List in light of Supreme Court’s orders.

The House unanimously passed a resolution condemning the suicide attack on ANP leader Haroon Ahmed Bilaur in Peshawar yesterday.

Leader of the House Raja Zafar-ul-Haq moved the resolution.

The resolution condemned the attack on ANP’s corner meeting in Yakkatut area of Peshawar which resulted in martyrdom of twenty innocent civilians’ lives including Barrister Haroon Bilour. It said this House and the entire Pakistani nation share the irreparable loss and grief to the Bilour family and reaffirms its undeterred commitment to defeat the evil of terrorism.

The resolution urged the caretaker federal and provincial governments to apprehend the real culprits and to break this nexus between the enemies of Pakistan. The sacrifices of the Bilaur family will be long remembered. The resolution prayed to Allah Almighty to shower His blessings on the departed soul and give the bereaved families the courage to bear this irreparable loss.

Later the House also offered fateha for the departed souls and prayed for early recoveries of the injured.
