Galle, July 12(TNS):  Opener Dimuth Karunaratne was batting on 37 as Sri Lanka made a solid ground on proceedings to reach 93 for two at lunch on day one of the first Test against South Africa in Galle on Thursday.

Karunaratne was partnering Kusal Mendis, on 19, against a persistent South African bowling attack after the hosts elected to bat first at the start of the two-match series.
