ECP seeks briefing from NACTA on poll violence

ISLAMABAD, July 14 (TNS): The top electoral body Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on has asked for a detailed briefing over security threats from National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta), the candidates are facing after terrorist attacks rocked Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the last week.

The commission directed the Nacta’s national coordinator to arrange the briefing on Saturday.

“The competent authority has desired to be immediately briefed on security threats to various political persons and the prevailing security situation,” read the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) directions issued to Nacta.

The chief election commissioner (CEC) will take stock of security threats being faced by politicians and candidates, an ECP spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan strongly condemned the Mastung massacre and attack on a convoy in Bannu and sought reports of the incidents.

The CEC sought a report from the chief minister, IGP and chief secretary over the Mastung massacre. The CEC also asked for a detailed report as to why candidates had not been provided proper security
