Moscow, July 16 (TNS): After the world cup glory in 1998, France clinched their second world cup in history on Sunday in Moscow, as they outclassed an error-prone Croatia.
Mario Mandzukic opened the scoring between the two sides as France lead in the 18th minute and he later became the first man to score a goal at both ends in a World Cup final.
However Ivan Perisic pegged them back in the game as he equalised early in the first half to give the Croatians hopw in their first final.
But minutes later Perisic became from Hero to Zero, as he unintentionally handled the ball in a corner situation to concede a penalty, which the Referee later awarded after consulting the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Antoine Greizmann slotted the ball home from 12 yards and made no mitake to give France a 2-1 lead before Half time.
The second half was full of French Relisience and Dominance as Paul Pogba and the teenager with world at his feet Kylian Mbappe scored glorious strikes to make it 4-1.
Mbappe, 19 became the first teenager since Pelle in 1970 to score a goal in the final.
Due to Hugo Lloris’ comic error , Croatia reduced the deficit as Mandzukic scored to give them a sniff of a comeback.
But it was not to be as France were victorious at final whistle, a rain-filled celebration brought immense jubilation for the French after 20 years.
Kylian Mbappe was named young player of the year, Croatia’s Modric received the golden ball for player of the tournament, Belgium’s Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois received Golden Glove and England’s Harry Kane got the Golden Boot award for becoming the top scorer in the World Cup 2018 with 6 goals.
