Islamabad , July 23, (TNS): The former opposition leader and senior PPP leader Khursheed Shah expressing regret over the anti-narcotics court verdict against Hanif Abbasi, in which he was sentenced for life imprisonment, demanded to allow him to contest the election.
An anti-narcotics court on Saturday handed down life imprisonment to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi in the eight-year-old ephedrine case. In a statement, he said that although he has numerous differences with PML-N but basic rights should be served to everyone. The verdict leaves the message that it is an attempt to clear the way for Sheikh Rashid in the forthcoming election,” adding that sending the opponent to jail and disqualifying them are the attempts to pave the way for Sheikh Rashid as he was demanding his cost of last five years. He reminded that Nawaz Sharif was sentenced just before the election and even his bail application postponed till the polls end. He questioned cases against Zardari have opened just before the election, such kind of steps were making the credibility of the election doubtful.
