Islamabad July 10 (TNS): The hearing in the court contempt case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan was adjourned till July 19 after the defendant’s lawyer sought time to submit a reply the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

When the ECP five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commission Sardar Muhammad Khan resumed hearing in the contempt-cum-foreign funding cases against the PTI chief on Monday, Khan’s legal counsel Babar Awan argued that the ECP did not have the jurisdiction to hear the contempt case against his client. He further contended that the Supreme Court and the high courts have the jurisdiction to hear such cases and the same case was being heard by the apex court

While speaking to the media after appearing before the ECP, Awan said that “we have filed a lawful answer”. “Imran Khan is not facing corruption charges and he cannot be disqualified,” Awan said.

While talking to media, PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said that, “We want the ECP to accept our plea as the arguments of party’s legal counsel were based on technical points.

He said that the opponents are spreading false information in the media.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz lawmaker Daniyal Aziz said that Khan again failed to submit his reply regarding the money trail and he considers himself above the law.

“The PTI gets the first position from the bottom in elections,” he said sarcastically while referring to its pitiable performance in by-elections, especially it’s poor show up at the PS-114 by-polls in Karachi, where PPP candidate won the polls despite the PTI’s much-trumpeted claim of victory.
