Three-day polio drive kicks off in South Waziristan

Wana July 10 (TNS): A three-day polio drive kicked off in South Waziristan on Monday.

During the campaign, over 0.3 million children aged five and below will be given polio drops.

According to the political administration, 1,374 mobile teams, 62 fixed teams, and 33 transit teams have been rolled out to give/administer polio drops to the children with a special focus on high-risk areas.

The health authorities and the political administration said that the tribal elders and religious leaders have assured them to extend their full cooperation to make the drive a success.

The polio drive will be carried out in South Waziristan, FR Tank, FR Dera Ismail Khan, and Khyber Agency and adjoining areas.

South Waziristan Political Agent Zafarul Islam said while talking to the tribal people said that hundred percent result will be achieved during the three-day drive after they have assured him of full cooperation. He appealed to the tribal elders and religion scholar to play their role in convincing reluctant parents to give polio drops to their children to save the future generation from the onslaught of the crippling polio virus.
