Manchester United get past Leicester in Premier League’s opening game

Old Trafford, August 11 (TNS): In a gruelling contest at Old Trafford Manchester United got past a resilient Leicester City side as they defeated them 2-1 on Saturday.

Paul Pogba was handed the arm band for the opening game of the season and the world cup winner opened the scoring in the 3rd minute of the game courtesy a penalty.

However, after an early setback Leicester remained resilient and showed tenacity throughout the game and sent waves after waves of attack to break United’s brick wall esque defence.

Leicester enjoyed 54% possession and had 13 attempts on goal out of which 4 were on target.

Luke Shaw who came back to the starting eleven after a longstanding injury doubled the lead in the 86th minute to put the game to bed.

Leicester did find a way to respond late in the game as their clinical striker Jamie Vardy scored a consolation goal to make it 2-1.

Paul Pogba was named man of the match at the end of the game for his emphatic performance in midfield.
