Ohio, August 13 (TNS): The World number one Tennis Player in ATP rankings Rafael Nadal on Monday withdrew from the ongoing edition of the Cincinnati Open.
The 32-year-old reasoned that maintaining the body fitness is his priority as he wants to keep it as healthy as possible.
The Spaniard made the announcement in a series of tweets after clinching his 80th career title on Sunday with victory at the Rogers Cup.
“I am very sorry to announce that I won’t be playing in Cincinnati this year. No other reason than personally taking care of my body and trying to keep as healthy as I feel now,” Nadal tweeted.
“I am very thankful to my friend Andre Silva, Tournament Director of the Cincinnati tournament who after speaking to him on the phone understood what I said and understand the situation. I am sure the tournament will be a success and I wish him and his team all the best,” he added.
On the other hand , three of the ‘top four’ players in the tennis world Roger Federer, Andy Murray, and Novak Djokovic are competing in the tournament which will conclude on August 19.
Andy Murray will take on Lucas Pouille of France in the opening round of the tournament on Monday.
