Islamabad, Aug. 28 (TNS): Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan has sought an emergent meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to raise the issue of blasphemous caricature contest in the Netherlands.
“Everyone has the same stance on blasphemous caricatures,” Qureshi said while addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Tuesday evening. “We will raise the issue at every international forum.”
The foreign minister further said that the measure has been taken in light of the Senate’s unanimous resolution adopted on Monday.
Earlier, Qureshi telephoned Dutch-foreign minister to convey him reservations and sentiments of Pakistanis and Muslim Umah over blasphemous caricature contest.
On Monday, condemning the competition, Prime Minister Imran Khan blamed the recurrence of such incidents a collective failure of the Muslim world, saying he would take up the matter at the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Khan said that the OIC should have taken up the matter long ago and forged a practicable strategy. But the organsation is yet to wake up to the detestable moves (perpetrated) to hurt the sentiments of the Muslims.
