Asian Games 2018: Rampant Malaysia knockout defending Champions India in Hockey SF

Jakarta, August 30 (TNS): Defending Champions India crashed out of the Asian games on Thursday as Malaysia stunned them by 7-6 during penalty shootout in the semi finals.

At full time 5th ranked side in world Hockey India and 12 the ranked side Malaysia were locked at 2-2.

Harmanpreet Singh opened the scoring in the third quarter of the match via a penalty corner but Malaysia soon pegged back into the game as they equalized in the 39th minute through Faizal Saari on open play.

Two minutes later Varun Kumar again got India back into the lead and then men in blue now looked in the commanding position at 2-1 at the end of the 3rd quarter which nurtured 3 goals.

However, Malaysia did not back down and they struck back again this time through Muhammad Rahim.

They game then went down to the wire and Malaysia were the ones who emerged with the nerves of steel on the occasion as they knocked out India and stunned the world.
