ATC announces death sentences to two MQM workers involved in Zahra Shahid’s demise

Karachi, August 31 (TNS): The anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi on Friday handed over death sentences to two Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) members for the the murder of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader’s Zahra Shahid in 2013.

Media Reports suggest that, Mohammad Rashid and Zahid Abbas Zaidi were awarded the death penalty while the two other accused Irfan alias Lamba and Kaleem were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The four men were charged of killing the PTI leader on the eve of re-polling on Karachi’s National Assembly constituency, NA-250.

The prosecution team told court that the suspects have been identified by the witnesses. Police had set a prize money worth Rs25 lac for recognizing the suspects.

The reserved verdict has been announced after almost five years the incident took place.
