Rawalpindi, Aug 31 (TNS): Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad-Javad Zarif on Friday met with Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and discussed regional security situation and other matters of mutual interest, a military statement said.
“The visiting dignitary acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s contributions for conflict prevention in the region,” a statement, issued by the military’s media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), reInter-Services
security situation and other matters of mutual interest were discussed. COAS said Pakistan is taking sincere steps for peace and security in the region,” it said.
Iranian Foreign Minister had arrived in Islamabad a day earlier on a two-day visit. The Iranian minister is the first top foreign diplomat to visit Pakistan after the new government came into power earlier this month.
It is pertinent to mention that this is Zarif’s eighth visit to Pakistan since he became Iranian foreign minister in 2013.
General Qamar Javed Bajwa had also visited Iran in November last year and met with Iranian leaders to further enhance coordination between the two countries, especially in the defense sector.
