Islamabad, Sept. 5 (TBS): The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has approved to initiate an inquiry into Defence Minister Pervez Khattak.
The decision was taken in a NAB meeting held in Islamabad.
The meeting was headed by NAB Chairman Javed Iqbal and attended by the board of governors.
According to the circular issued by NAB, the anti-graft watchdog has approved a total of 14 inquiries.
A probe will be initiated against Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar, Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani and Dr Ehsan among 14 other people.
EBM accorded approval to conduct inquiry against former
Additional Chief Secretary (P&D) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khalid Pervaiz,
Managing Director Tourism Corporation, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mushtaq
Khan, Iqbal Z Ahmed, Yousaf Jamil Ansari, Iftikhar Qaimkhani, Director
Deneral Sindh Building Control Authority, Mayor Karachi Waseem Ahmed,
Former Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister Imtiaz Malah,Dilawar
Hussain Memon, Chief Executive Officer ,MEPCO , Sukkar Nazir Soomro
and Messers Crystal Mod Town Rao and builders of Rana, Associates,
owner Rao Muhammad Shakir, and others.
Likewise three other investigations have also been approved against Dr
Shahid Mehboob,Vice Chancellor, GC University,Faisalabad, Ali Gul
Kurd, Director General Finance, office, Quetta. Details would be
shared at appropriate time as per directives of Supreme Court of
Pakistan. The EBM has accorded approval to file following corruption
references.
EBM has approved filing reference against Dr Ahsan Ali, former Vice
Chancellor, Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan and others on
accusations of inflicting Rs 328.366 million in awarding contract of
purchasing IT equipments to favourite companies on higher rates.
The EBM also approved filing a reference against Nawabzada
Mehmoodzaib, former provincial minister for Technical Education,
Manpower, Industries, Mineral Development Development , Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa. They have been accused of inflicting Rs 350.52 million
losses to national kitty by awarding phosphate exploration contract of
498.96 acre land on cheaper rates of Rs 14,980 by abusing authority.
EBM approved filing reference against Izhar Hussain, former Food
Minister, Balochistan and others. They have been accused of
misappropriation in sending 35,000 sacks of wheat to PRC Pashin. This
caused Rs 210.18 million losses to national kitty.
EBM approved filing corruption reference against Sultan
Muhammad Hinjra, , former member National Assembly and others. They
have been accused of illegaly allotting 1342 Kanal state land of Thal
Development Authority and One Kanal , 14 Marla land of graveyard to
favourites by fraud. This caused Rs 190 million losses to national
kitty.
EBM approved filing corruption reference against Chaudhry
Guftar Ahmed Anjum, former Chief Operating Officer, MEPCO and others.
They have been accused of depositing Rs 200 million of MEPCO in Trust
Investment Bank, Multan alleged abuse of authority.This caused Rs 314
million losses to national kitty.
Justice Javed said the top priority of NAB was to conclude mega
corruption cases. NAB officials were pursuing the policy of
‘Accountability for All’ for elimination of corruption without caring
about any duress. NAB considers elimination of corruption as national
responsibility and NAB officers putting their energies together for
corruption elimination from country.
Chairman directed to take the investigation, inquiries, and
investigations in accordance with law, merit within prescribed time
and on the basis of concrete evidence available. He directed to take
the cases to logical conclusion so that the looted money could be
deposited in the national exchequer. This will ensure prosperous
Pakistan. Corrupt would be dealt with as per law.
