LAHORE (TNS): Govt amends Police rules, reduces minimum age for selection to 18 years

LAHORE, July 12 (TNS): In a major shift after 73 years, government has amended Police Rules, 1934 according to which minimum age for selection is reduced to 18 years and maximum age to 22 years.
Likewise, age of retirement has been set at 50 years. Earlier, the minimum and maximum ages stood at 22 years and 25 years respectively.
Sources privy to Police department informed that more changes are being anticipated in the coming few days as work on them is in full swing. Former Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police Mushtaq Sukhera had forwarded summary to government aimed at key reforms in pre-partition rules.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shehzada Sultan, while talking media, said that amendments were need of the hour as country had beefed up its efforts to eradicate terrorism.
On the other hand, constables and other police staff have overtly rejected the aforementioned reforms.
