DI KHAN, July 12 (TNS): At least 8 people were killed on Tuesday in various rain-related incidents across the country since the monsoon currents hit the country . The Meteorological department forecasts heavy to light rain for the whole week across country.
Six people died in Gujranwala when the roof top of the house collapsed due to heavy rain on Wednesday morning.
A woman, daughter and son came under the debris and died when the roof of their house caved in. Another girl was injured in the incident and taken to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.
Another woman identified as Saima, and her two children died when the roof of their house collapsed in Arif town. Two more people from Zhob, Balochistan died drowning in the storm drain.
In Lower Dir, two children were killed and three others were wounded when their roof caved in due to rain at agency headquarters, Timergarah.
In another incident, six people were killed when their houses collapsed due to heavy rain in Peshawar and Chitral.
The heavy rain is expected in different parts of the Balochistan and there are chances of flooding in the streams and water channels. Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned the residents to shift to safe areas to prevent loss of precious lives.
Moreover, in Manshehra roads are blocked due to land sliding in different places. Due to the blockage of the Kaghan route, tourists are facing difficulties. The area is a popular tourist destination in summer.
In Mianwali, rain water accumulated in underpasses and roads leading to the traffic blockage.
Nullah Lai in Rawalpindi started increasing once again due to heavy rain. The Water and Sanitation Agency has issued an alert and requested heavy machinery to clear the drains.
In different parts of the KPKA the drainage and streams are flooded due to the heavy rain, and rain water entered houses in Swabi.
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts that dust-thunderstorm and light showers with gusty winds are expected at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Dera Ismail Khan, Sahiwal, Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
An overflow of water is expected in the rivers and canals in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan and Islamabad, alongside some areas of KP and Kashmir.
Floods are expected in the the low-lying areas of Sindh and Punjab, as well as parts of Balochistan.
There is also a risk of landslides in Malakand, Hazara division, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.
Intermittent rain is continuing in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
A spokesperson of Met office told that the highest rainfall of ninety eight millimeter was recorded in Dir followed by fifty mm in Saidu Sharif.
The hilly areas continue to receive snowfall with two feet of snow recorded in Malam Jabba, Murree and Galiyat.
The Margalla hills in Islamabad also received snowfall. The current rain spell will have productive impact on the wheat crop.
Meanwhile, there are reports of landslides at different parts of the Neelum, Jehlum and Leepa valleys.
