Islamabad, Nov 15 (TNS): Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi has said that Afghan Government confirmed on Wednesday the death of SP Tahir Khan Dawar, who had been kidnapped from Islamabad and taken there.
Making a statement over the incident, he said culprits behind this heinous crime will be taken to task.
He said Tahir Khan Dawar was kidnapped from Islamabad and shifted to Afghanistan via Mianwali and Bannu.
The Minister of State said an FIR was registered in Ramna Police Station, Islamabad on 28th of the November regarding disappearance of the martyred police officer.
He said the previous government had installed about 1,800 cameras in the federal capital under safe city project, but unfortunately, over 600 of them are non-functional.
He said not a single camera is able to capture recognizable pictures of vehicles and dubious people. He urged the House to initiate an inquiry into the safe city project.
The House also offered fateha for the departed soul of martyred SP Tahir Khan Dawar.
Senators paid rich tributes to SP Tahir Khan Dawar and demanded of the government to unearth the mystery behind this incident.

Earlier, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani in his ruling asked Information Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain to tender apology for the harsh language he used against opposition members in yesterday’s sitting of the House.
He said the members should refrain from using harsh language against their fellow senators. Taking the floor Leader of House Shibli Faraz said that running business of the house is responsibility of both the treasury and the opposition benches.
The opposition parties also staged walk out from the house over remarks of Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary.
Leader of the House Shibli Faraz has expressed the hope that both opposition and the government will demonstrate responsibility in running business of the Senate in a smooth manner.
Taking floor, he thanked the opposition for their cooperation to maintain tranquility in the House. He, however, said that the government side will continue to raise issues concerning public interests including eradication of corruption.
He said raising the issue of corruption should not be taken as humiliation to anyone.The Leader of the House stressed the need to depoliticize the state institutions.
Regarding points about media raised by some Senators, he said the government has nothing to do with the downsizing drive of some media houses. He said we believe in complete independence of media and will not influence it in anyway.
Speaking on the occasion, Opposition Leader Raja Zafar ul Haq said that they have no objection if the government side raises the issue of corruption but the accountability process must be across the board instead of opposition centric.
The Senate also unanimously passed a resolution calling upon the government to take concrete steps for repatriation of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui at the earliest.
The resolution, moved by Senator Talha Mahmood, showed serious concerns on continues detention of Dr. Aafia Siddiqi in the United States. It appreciated the efforts of the Parliament of Pakistan it had made for repatriation of the daughter of the nation.
The resolution reiterated that there is a dire need to take up the matter with the United States again to bring Aafia Siddiqui back.
The House will now meet again on Friday at 10:30 in the morning.
