Govt launched comprehensive drive against power theft: Omar

Islamabad, Jan. 15 (TNS): Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan informed the National Assembly last night that the government had launched comprehensive drive against power theft to overcome the inefficiency of the system and maximize recovery.

Speaking on point of order, he said the government has registered First Information Report against 15,000 power thefts and arrested 1,500 people involved in the heinous crime.

He said till date, the ministry recovered about 1.5 billion rupees from defaulters.

The Minister said the ministry will add about 3,500MW electricity in the system before the commencement of summer season.   

The House will resume its sessions at 11 am today.
