Islamabad, Feb. 25 (TNS): Information Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain says government wants to establish a media regulatory authority with consensus.

He was speaking during a meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting in Islamabad today.

The Minister said draft of media regulatory authority is being sent to all stakeholders to seek their opinions. He said we want to establish such an institution that is free from government influence.

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said Pakistani media is enjoying many freedoms in comparison with media in other Islamic countries.

He said with the fast pace of advancement in technology, all media is merging into digital media.

The Minister said media industry as well as owners and workers are facing a number of problems. He said unlike print media where labor laws exist for employees, electronic media has no such protection available.
