Govt committed to empowerment of women: MNA Uzma Riaz

Islamabad, march 08 (TNS): Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul says government is taking concrete steps to promote the role of women in national development.

She was speaking in a program of Radio Pakistan’s News and Current Affairs during a special two-hour special transmission to mark the International Women’s Day on Friday.

Zartaj Gul said no nation can progress without the effective participation of women.

Taking part in the programme, MNA Uzma Riaz Jadoon said the government is committed to empowerment of women. She said present government has appointed eleven women as Parliamentary Secretaries in different ministries.

Renowned broadcaster Ishrat Saqib said that support of the family is very important for empowerment of women. She said male members of her family played a vital role in her success. 

In her views, budding poet Izza Anwar said that she got inspiration from her maternal grandfather who was a renowned poet. She also recited her poetry in the program.

Taking part in the programme, Lieutenant Commander Pakistan Navy Javeria Naseem said women are also at their best in the defence forces. She said that women are not behind men in any field.

Controller Central Productions Radio Pakistan Shamim Anjum who was host of the programme said that education is imperative for women to excel in any field.

Prominent women from diverse field also participated in the program through telephone and shared their experience.  

They included Nighat Saeed, Head Gender Cell Election Commission of Pakistan, Dr. Anila Kamal, Head of Psychology Department, Quaid-e-Azam University, Fareeha Idrees, renowned Anchorperson, and Leila Zuberi, famous artist.
