ISLAMABAD, July 14 (TNS): The security forces foiled an early morning terrorists’ attack from the Afghan side of the border.
Two suicide bombers, who were among a group of the attackers, were killed by the security forces in Khyber tribal region, which borders Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province. “Security forces foiled terrorists attack on border post in Khyber Agency,” ISPR said.
“Terrorists including 2 suicide bombers from across the border attempted fire raid and targetted Misthara post, 2 km North West of Jarobi on Pak-Afghan Border,” the statement said . Both suicide bombers were killed and 2 soldiers got injured in exchange of fire with the terrorists, it further said.
The banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan Jamaat-ul-Ahrar said it was involved in the attack on a military camp.
Pakistani security officials insist that Pakistani militants, who have escaped as the result of major military operations in tribal regions in recent years, have crossed into Afghanistan and now operate from there.
Pakistan and Afghanistan have nearly 2600 kilometers common border, mostly porous, and the militants used to take advantage of the absence of an effective border management system.
Pakistan says it has started fencing of its border with Afghanistan to stop the cross-border movement of the armed groups. Officials are pressing Afghan govt to take similar measures to make the border secure.
Last week a group of U.S. senators, who visited Pakistan and Afghanistan, later said in the Afghan capital of Kabul that Pakistan military has floated the idea of joint Pak-Afghan operations in the border regions against the militant groups.
In another development, paramilitary troops along with police and intelligence agencies have arrested 2 terrorist facilitator gangs, including women operatives, in Dera Ghazi Khan district.
“Huge quantity of illegal/automatic weapons, ammunition and Law Enforcement Agencies’ uniforms were recovered from these gangs,” an army statement said.
The weapons and ammunition were being transported for terrorist activities in major cities of Punjab and Sindh provinces, the army said.
