Govt committed to increase agri produce in country: PM

Islamabad: July 01, 2021 (TNS): Prime Minister Imran Khan says the government is committed to increase agri produce in the country by providing technical assistance and direct subsidy to farmers.

Addressing the National Kisaan Convention in Islamabad today (Thursday), he said development of the agriculture sector is vital for progress and prosperity of the country.

The Prime Minister said government is focusing on research and seed development to enhance per acre yield and preserve perishable commodities like fruits and vegetables.

He said we have large swathes of barren land in Dera Ismail Khan, Cholistan, merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and other parts of the country, which can be utilized for agricultural purposes.

Imran Khan said Pakistan has favourable conditions of land and environment for cultivation of olive, avocado and other modern verities.

He expressed the hope that Pakistan will soon become an exporter of olive oil due to steps taken by the government to promote olive cultivation in the country.

The Prime Minister, on the occasion, also inaugurated agriculture exhibition.

Addressing the convention, Minister for Food Security Syed Fakhar Imam said development of the country is impossible without increase of agriculture produce.

He said the country has witnessed bumper crops of wheat and rice due to provision of quality seed to the farmers.

The Minister said development of agriculture sector is part of Prime Minister’s vision and a huge amount of 60 billion rupees has been allocated in the new fiscal year.

Fakhar Imam said government has set 4 percent growth target of agricultural sector in current fiscal year.

Speaking on the occasion, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Food Security Jamshed Iqbal Cheema briefed the Prime Minister on transformation plan and strategy for betterment of agri sector.

He said, in first time of the history of the country, the PTI government will materialize the dream of agricultural development.
