RISJA sports seminar on proposed sports policy 2021 held at Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Sep 03, 2021 (TNS): A sports seminar was organized by Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RASJA) to take suggestions and recommendations of sports stakeholders on new proposed sports policy 2021 prepared by the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination. The Prominent Pakistani Olympians, sports organizers, journalists, coaches, international players and other stakeholders of the country have requested Prime Minister Imran Khan to take all the stakes holders on the policy instead of hastily approving the new proposed sports policy 2021to be formulated in a closed room and proposed sports policy to be approved after consultation with the stakes holders. Addressing to seminar the sports personalities of Pakistan Olympian Talha Talib, Olympian Kiran Khan, Olympian Sadaf Siddiqui, Boxer Wasim Khan, Former Federal Secretary Ejaz Chaudhry, Former Minister Aqil Shah, Alamgir Sheikh, Senior Journalist Fahad Hussain, Chairman Risja Abdul Mahi Shah, President Risja Ayaz Akbar, Secretary Arif Mahmood, President SAJAL Aqeel Ahmed, Secretary Ashraf Chaudhry, Senior Journalist Abdul Majeed Bhatti stated that Serious steps should be taken for the development of sports in the country, including making the Ministry of Sports a separate ministry. The system of begging for athletes should be ended, including the complete elimination of political interference in sports. The ongoing dispute between the Pakistan Sports Board and Pakistan Olympic Association will damage the national sports.The seminar proposed sports policy 2021, Risja formulated the recommendations of the stakeholders on the proposed sports policy and now these recommendations will be forwarded to the Prime Minister, Federal Ministers, Members of Parliament and other stakeholders. The recommendations said that the Prime Minister should not rush into the approval of the new sports policy, Imran Khan should hold a conference of all stakeholders on the policy. Positive suggestions from athletes, coaches and departments should also be included, and the views of all stakeholders on the proposed sports policy should be sought. Serious steps are essential for the development of sports in Pakistan. The Ministry of Sports should be made a separate ministry. It was recommended that the importance of women in the new sports policy be highlighted. The recommendations state that an increase in sports funds is essential for the development of sports. The Dispute between Pakistan Sports Board and Pakistan Olympic Association will have adverse effects, POA, PSB, Sports Federations must play their important role. The government should take steps to prepare for the SAF Games, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. It was recommended that the first sports university be established with the cooperation of China and Germany. The system of begging in sports should be abolished. Sports competitions between educational institutions should be made mandatory. It was said that there should be a performance-based formula for disbursement of funds to sports federations. Instead of formulating a policy in closed rooms, all parties should be involved. It was recommended that the role of all stakeholders in the new sports policy should be clear, the commission consisting of ministers for implementation policy in the new policy is not workable, sports federations should be made part of the plan of action policy, parallel federations should be completely abolished. , Sports affairs should be free from politics. Olympian wrestler Talha Talib while addressing the National Sports Policy Seminar from video link said that full facilities should be provided to the athletes and coaches in Pakistan, the athletes do not get proper training and facilities. He said that the government should ensure the provision of facilities, a sports academy should be set up in every city and the players should get maximum facilities. Alamgir Sheikh, Chairman, Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association, while giving his recommendations, said that POA, PSB, Sports Federations have to play their respective roles, performance-based formula should be formulated for release of funds of Sports Federations, in closed rooms. Involve all parties instead of formulating policy. Boxer Muhammad Waseem while addressing the National Sports Policy Seminar said that he will make more names for Pakistan. Sports in Pakistan has become very limited. There are no facilities for boxers in Pakistan Sports Complex.
