GUJRAT, August 12 (TNS): The funeral prayers of 12-year-old kid – who was killed in a hit-and-run incident by one of vehicles in Nawaz Sharif’s convoy – have been offered here in presence of large crowd.
Political personalities from various parties also took part in the prayers. Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) worker Tanvir Chaudhry said his party owns the deceased and stands by the bereaved family.
One of the vehicles in Nawaz Sharif’s ‘homecoming’ rally ran over the boy yesterday, injuring him critically who succumbed to his injuries during treatment later. The boy, Hamid, laid to rest in presence of large crowd at a local cemetery on GT Road.
An FIR against unidentified driver and vehicle has been registered. According to eye witnesses and local residents, the vehicle bearing number plate ‘SS-875’ hit the boy. “The vehicle’s driver did not stop over seeing boy coming in front of it and ran over him,” a resident told media.
Sharif’s convoy did not stop after the incident and kept moving ahead, seemingly either unaware or unaffected by the fatal accident. The apathy infuriated the local residents who gathered on GT Road and staged a protest against Sharif, chanting anti-government slogans.
The incident received mixed response. Some of the ruling party leaders claimed that the boy was hit by another vehicle which was trying to join Sharif’s rally while others affirmed a thorough inquiry into the matter.
The boy was resident of Lala Musa who came to see the ex-PM’s convoy when a vehicle of Sharif’s convoy – tasked to provide protocol to Nawaz Sharif – ran over him. PAT leader Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that a case should be registered against the former premier.
Subsequently, ruling party’s Rana Sanaullah affirmed an inquiry into the matter while talking to the channel. However, he said the convoy was moving at snail’s speed while condemning the incident.
