Clash of the titans, Chelsea to face Manchester United in FA Cup Final


London, April 23 (TNS): Chelsea displayed a solid performance against relegation-threatened Southampton in the FA Cup semifinal on Sunday, as the Blues won 2-0 against the saints.

They booked their place in the final along with Manchester United, who earlier defeated a threatening Tottenham Hotspurs side after a hard-fought win.

Olivier Giroud opened the scoring in the second half after he headed a stunning cross from star winger Eden Hazard. Alvaro Morata doubled the lead late in the game to send Chelsea in the FA Cup final for the second year in a row.

Manchester United came from behind against Spurs to clinch a place in the final for the first time in two years. Red Devils made a comeback courtesy Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera to deny Delli Alli’s opener in the first half for Spurs.

This will be for the first time in a decade that the two titans will clash each other. The last time they met was a dramatic night in Moscow, A champions league final which United won on penalties.

Manchester United have won 12 FA Cups (the second most) in their illustrious history, whereas the blues have got 7 FA Cup titles to their name.

Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho has got a magnificent record in the finals as he has won 12 out of 14 as manager.

However, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte still rues the FA Cup loss he suffered against Arsenal last year and vows to turn things around this time.

The FA Cup Final on 19th May remains the biggest final in English football this season. As the league is pretty much done and dusted, whether it be the title race or the race for the Top 4 Champions League spots.

The two defensive masters Conte and Mourinho will combat each other again this time the one breaks the strengths of the other’s philosophy will reap the goods.
