Danyal Aziz submits reply in contempt case

ISLAMABAD, July 24 (TNS): Pakistan Muslim League leader Danyal Aziz on Monday submitted reply before Election Commission of Pakistan in contempt of court case.  A five-member bench of ECP headed by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Sardar Raza Khan is hearing the contempt case against Danyal Aziz.

Aziz in his reply submitted that he had never used any contemptuous word or remark against the Commission. The contempt proceeding was initiated over Danyal Aziz’s allegations that the commission has adopted a soft attitude to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) but is meting out discriminatory treatment to his party.  Mr Aziz’s remarks made in May had led to his grilling by the Supreme Court where he explained that he was referring to the ECP and not the apex court.

Because Danyal Aziz did not appear before the ECP in person, the hearing of the case was adjourned till tomorrow (Tuesday) July 25.
