Islamabad/Karachi June 14 (TNS): The federal government has directed the provincial authorities to keep a vigilant eye on banned outfits whose activists may attempt to collect Zakat and Fitrana.
Intelligence agencies have warned that the banned outfits were highly likely to collect Zakat and Fitrana on Eid days and during the fasting month.
Sources said that some banned outfits and certain religio-political parties have started collecting Zakat and Fitrana and the intelligence agencies have warned against a massive collection by these outfits and their sympathisers.
Meanwhile, the federal and provincial governments have directed the police and other law enforcement agencies to take put in place a robust regime to carry out a crackdown on banned outfits and their supporters and sympathisers collecting funds from the public.
Karachi police claimed that no activity pertaining to the collection of Zakat and Fitrana by banned outfits has so far been reported in the city. Karachi is the top city where a maximum number of Zakat and Fitrana collection is reported every year.
Sources privy to the development said that police have been deployed in vicinities of mosques and madrassas.
Police have been put on alert in other cities including Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Quetta and Peshawar to ensure that no banned organisation was able to collect the funds.
