Fifth inquiry: Hussain Nawaz appears before JIT

Islamabad June 09 (TNS): Prime minister’s son, Hussain Nawaz on Friday appeared before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) — formed by the Supreme Court to probe the alleged money-laundering of the Sharif family to purchase property abroad — for the fifth time.

While talking to the media briefly, Hussain Nawaz said that questions are being raised about the performance of the JIT after his picture was leaked

Hussain Nawaz along with PML-N leaders and a large number of workers reached the Federal Judicial Academy (JIT), where the JIT is headquartered, amid tight security.

Talking to the media outside the FJA, Prime Minister’s Adviser Asif Kirmani said that Prime Minister Nawaz got an informal approval from the federal cabinet to empower the JIT to carry out a free and fair investigation into the allegations involving his family. He said that Hussan and Hassan Nawaz presented themselves for accountability despite being non-residents. He said that being a non-resident, they could have pleaded exemption but they did not.

He said that their reservations on the composition of the JIT were still there, but still the ruling party will continue to cooperate with the probe team.

Lashing out at PTI chief Imran Khan, Kirmani alleged that he (Imran) was the one who was ready to open offices of Taliban in Peshawar while he also hatched a conspiracy to sabotage the multi-billion CPEC project. He counted the achievements of the present government including restoration of peace in Karachi and Balochistan, the addition of several thousand megawatts of electricity to the national grid etc.

CADD Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry while talking about the ambulance that was sent to the FJA on the first appearance of Hussain Nawaz before the JIT said that though the ambulance was sent by his ministry, but they were not told by the JII members or others why the ambulance was being called. He said that rumours were spread that Hussain Nawaz’s blood and sugar level had dropped. He said that such unfitting reports had their toll on his parents and his family. Chaudhry claimed that Imran Khan after failing to compete with them in the political arena has taken them to court. “But here too, we will win, as they have no evidence against us,” he said.
