Islamabad, Sept. 7 (TNS): On first stopover of four-nation trip, Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif will leave for China on one-day visit on Friday.
Ahead of his maiden visit to America, Khawaja Asif will travel to China, Russia, Turkey and Iran this week to drum up support for Islamabad after US President Donald Trump warned it of consequences if it continues to support terror groups.
During his stay in Beijing, the Foreign Minister will hold meetings with the State Councillor for Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi, and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
The two sides will review bilateral relations and regional developments, including the situation in Afghanistan.
Asif will leave for Washington after his visit of these four countries. The foreign minister, who was invited by his US counterpart Rex Tillerson for a visit last month, delayed the trip in order to firm up support for Pakistan, according to diplomatic sources.
