ISLAMABAD Sept 9 (TNS): The Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) said that there is an exigent need to chalk out a comprehensive strategy to explore international markets for increasing exports of locally-made furniture.
Chairing a meeting with a delegation of furniture exporters hailing from Sindh at PFC headquarter on Friday, PFC CEO Mian Kashif Ashfaq appreciated the role of Sindh’s furniture exporters.
He said that furniture makers from Sindh are expanding the volume of furniture exports that, despite being low, has the potential to increase exponentially through effective marketing.
He said PFC successfully held its three-day mega 8th Interiors Pakistan exhibition in Karachi expo centre in which a large number of woodwork companies belonging to Karachi and Sindh participated.
The PFC CEO further said that PFC’s upcoming 9th “Interiors Pakistan” exhibition will be held in December at the expo centre Lahore that would help in boosting the local furniture businesses inside and outside the country.
He invited exporters of the Pakistan furniture to participate in the upcoming PFC exhibition and display their products. He said the exhibition is an opportunity for large furniture companies and interior designers in the country to display their products.
“The potential is largely untapped and there is room for diversification. The market beyond Pakistani borders is substantially larger than the local market,” he added.
He urged the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to facilitate furniture exporters at international furniture exhibitions. Exports to Italy, France, USA make up 55% of total furniture exports, the PFC head said, highlighting the need for increasing export destinations.
