New Delhi, Oct. 27 (TNS): Geeta, the speech-impaired girl who returned to India 14 years after accidentally reaching Pakistan, on Friday reportedly did not recognise the couple from Jharkhand who claimed she was their daughter.

Vijay Ram and his wife Mala Devi, residents of the Bandu village in the Garhwa district of Jharkhand, had claimed that Geeta was their daughter, Tunni Kumari alias Guddi. Tunni Kumari had disappeared nine years ago from her in-laws’ house in the Rohtas district of Bihar, they said. The couple and their son had a meeting with Geeta at the Collector’s office here on Friday.

Gyanendra Purohit, a sign language expert, said Geeta did not recognise the family. “Geeta said through sign language that the couple are not her parents,” Mr. Purohit said.

Collector Nishant Warwade said DNA samples of Geeta and the couple willbe tested at a laboratory in Delhi and results are expected within a week.
