SRINAGAR/NEW DELHI, June 19 (TNS): At many  places in Indian held Kashmir, people came out in large numbers to celebrate Pakistan’s win over India in the Champions Trophy final. At some places, youths clashed with security personnel after throwing crackers into their camps.

In Srinagar, youths burst crackers, waved Pakistani flags and raised pro-Pakistan and anti-India slogans. At Fatehkadal and Sakidafar inSrinagar and in Anantnag, police and paramilitary personnel used teargas shells to disperse youths throwing firecrackers into their camps.

In Tral, a large number of men and women took to the streets afterPakistan’s win. Eyewitnesses said there were victory parades in most Tral villages. In the town, a huge gathering raised anti-India slogans.

In Shopian and Khudwani in Kulgam, militants are said to have fired in the air in celebration. Celebrations were also reported from Sopore, Baramulla and other parts of north Kashmir

As a precaution, gates of the NIT-Srinagar campus were closed at 5 pm. Last year, out-of-town students at the institute had clashed with local students during an India-Pakistan match.

In New Delhi, a highly upset and angered Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has in a tweet asked Mir Waiz Umer Farooq to celebratePakistan’s win in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan rather than inKashmir.

The provocation for Gambhir’s tweet? Separatist Hurriyat man Mirwaiz Umar Farooq tweeting his joy at Pakistan beating India in the Champion’s Trophy final.

Fireworks all around, feels like an early Eid here. Better team took the day. Congratulations team #Pakistan, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq tweeted.

In fact, this isn’t the first time Farooq congratulated the Pakistani cricket team. After it beat England to enter the Champions Trophy final, the Kashmiri separatist tweeted:

As we were finishing taraweeh, could hear the fire crackers bursting, well played team Paksitan. Best of luck for the finals, Mirwaiz said earlier.
