Hurdles to probe: SC takes up JIT petition today

Islamabad June 12 (TNS): The Supreme Court implementation bench will take up on Monday (today) a petition moved by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) about the “hurdles” it is facing in the high-profile Panama Papers case.

The bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan will hear the petition filed by JIT head Wajid Zia.

On June 10, while submitting a second fortnightly progress report about the probe into the Panama Papers case involving the prime minister and his family, Zia had intimated the apex court about the hurdles and the bench had directed him to file a separate application in this regard.

The bench will also take up the reply of the JIT on an application filed by prime minister’s son Hussain Nawaz who had said that his picture of interrogation was leaked to the media allegedly by the JIT.

Sources claimed that the JIT in its petition has maintained that its members were facing pressure and threats.

All JIT members have reached the Supreme Court in tight security, which will take up the petition in a while.
