ISLAMABAD, Thursday, 26 December 2024 (TNS): Former Advisor to the President, Dr. Farooq Adil on Thursday shed light on the intricate interplay of history, leadership, and lessons learned from the past, stressing the need for nations to embrace wisdom and foresight in their pursuit of progress.<\/p>\n
Speaking at an event commemorating the 148th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Pakistan\u2019s founding father, here at the Turkish Embassy, he remarked that major events, capable of reshaping history and geography, do not occur spontaneously. \u201cNature orchestrates them, and great leaders emerge to fulfill their roles before departing, leaving legacies that guide nations toward their destinies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Dr. Adil reflected on the post-independence struggles of the subcontinent, noting the initial sentiment of resorting to force to repel colonial powers. \u201cFrom Siraj-ud-Daulah to Tipu Sultan and the War of Independence in 1857, every armed resistance distanced us from our goals,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
He praised Sir Syed Ahmed Khan as the first visionary leader who advocated for a paradigm shift. \u201cAfter numerous failed military attempts, Sir Syed introduced the idea of pursuing knowledge and wisdom to uplift the nation,\u201d Dr. Adil stated adding that while his efforts initiated intellectual progress, they also caused ideological dilemmas within the Muslim community, with some fearing that modern education could erode their faith.<\/p>\n
Dr. Adil credited Allama Iqbal for resolving these ideological conflicts. \u201cIqbal reminded us of the Prophet\u2019s teaching that wisdom is the lost heritage of believers. He emphasized the need to adapt while staying rooted in faith,\u201d he said, highlighting Iqbal\u2019s transformative address at Allahabad, which outlined the necessity of breaking free from colonial and imperialist traditions and focusing on proactive, constructive efforts.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmong all, it was Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah who truly grasped Iqbal\u2019s vision and turned it into reality,\u201d Dr. Adil added. He hailed Quaid-e-Azam as the leader who equipped the Muslim community with the power of dialogue, reason, and democratic action. \u201cQuaid-e-Azam taught us that the sharpness of the tongue, backed by logic and intellect, surpasses the might of swords. He showed us that the power of the vote outweighs the strength of weapons,\u201d Dr. Adil remarked.<\/p>\n
He further underscored the global impact of Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam\u2019s legacy, asserting that the freedom movements of the 20th century drew inspiration from their strategy. \u201cTheir greatness lies not only in achieving Pakistan but also in paving the way for liberation movements worldwide,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Drawing parallels with Turkey\u2019s historical journey, Dr. Adil noted striking similarities between the reformative roles of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and Turkey\u2019s Mehmet Akif Ersoy, as well as the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam and Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk. \u201cTurkey\u2019s transition from the \u2018Sick Man of Europe\u2019 to a modern, visionary state under Recep Tayyip Erdogan mirrors our own struggles and triumphs,\u201d he observed.<\/p>\n
Dr. Adil concluded with a powerful lesson from history, emphasizing the strategic use of intellect and democratic tools. \u201cWhether it\u2019s Pakistan, Turkey, or Palestine, success lies in knowledge, reason, and the power of the vote.
