MULTAN (TNS) Chairman Special Committee for the Revival of Cotton Industry (FPCCI) and Chairman South Punjab (PBF) Malik Sohail Talat said in a media briefing that in a major policy development for the Pakistan cotton sector, a major statutory regulatory order SRO 1359(1) has been issued by FBR to ensure a level playing field for local cotton.Imported cotton,yarn,grey fabric which was imported on zero duty under EFS.Now it is delisted from EFS and 18% Gst is imposed on its import.
\nThis achievement is the result of a year of tireless work under the leadership of Patron-in-Chief of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Mr. S.M. Tanveer, in close collaboration with all stakeholders from the industry and the public sector.
\n\u201cThis SRO is not just a regulatory reform but a victory for the entire value chain of Pakistan\u2019s cotton and textile industry,\u201d he said, adding that the SRO, issued under the wise leadership of Patron-in-Chief SM Tanveer, \u201creflects our commitment to strengthen local resources and safeguard the future of our farmers, ginners and manufacturers.\u201d
\nThe coordinated campaign saw continuous engagement with government ministries, policymakers and trade bodies. I would like to specially commend Kamran Arshad (Chairman APTMA) and Vice President (FPCCI) Asif Inam for their strategic direction and unwavering commitment to the cause.<\/p>\n
The Pakistan Business Forum (PBF) also played a key role, providing full support and advocacy throughout the process. It even engaged in follow-up discussions beyond the announcement of the Finance Bill to shape the final policy measures.<\/p>\n
The private sector\u2019s efforts were bolstered by the invaluable support of influential legislators. I would like to express my special gratitude to Syed Naveed Qamar, Ms. Nafisa Shah, Rana Sanaullah Khan, and Rana Tanveer Hussain, who recognized the importance of this issue and effectively advocated for the interests of the domestic industry.
