Islamabad (TNS) The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), with financial support from the Government of Canada, handed over specialized equipment to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to strengthen Pakistan\u2019s efforts to combat Trafficking in Persons (TIP) and Smuggling of Migrants (SOM).<\/p>\n
The handover ceremony was attended by H.E. Tarik Ali Khan, High Commissioner of Canada to Pakistan, Dr. Usman Anwar, Director General of the FIA, and Mr. Troels Vester, UNODC Representative in Pakistan.
\nThe equipment package included portable forensic document examination kits, analytical workstations, laptops, data storage solutions, networking equipment, and office infrastructure support. These resources will enhance FIA\u2019s investigative, analytical, and operational capabilities in addressing increasingly complex trafficking and migrant smuggling cases.
\nThe support forms part of a Canada-funded programme implemented by UNODC since 2021 to strengthen Pakistan\u2019s response to human trafficking and migrant smuggling. Through this partnership, UNODC has supported FIA with specialized training, technical assistance, victim protection initiatives, awareness campaigns, infrastructure improvements, and operational equipment.<\/p>\n
Representatives from Canada, UNODC, and FIA reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening Pakistan\u2019s capacity to prevent and combat trafficking in persons and migrant smuggling, while protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation and supporting a stronger criminal justice response.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
