JOHOR BAHRU, MALAYSIA AUG 15 (TNS):<\/strong> Princess Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim, 31, the lone daughter of the Sultan of Johor, one of Malaysia\u00b4s most powerful sultans, entered into marriage wedlock with Dennis Muhammad Abdullah, 28.<\/p>\n

Johor\u00b4s royal family is rich and powerful and possesses its own private army — the only Malaysian state to have one.<\/p>\n

The Dutch fianc\u00e9 of the princess who has converted to Islam, married according to the Muslim Malay custom at the Serene Hill Palace, the royal family\u00b4s residence in the southern city of Johor Bahru. The secluded ceremony was attended by close family and friends.<\/p>\n

Wearing traditional white Malay wedding attire, the groom placed the ring on the finger of his bride, who wore a white dress, in a special room of the palace and offered a dowry of around $5, in line with centuries-old local customs.<\/p>\n

The couple was sitting on an elaborately decorated dais as family members and dignitaries dropped petals into their hands and sprinkled them with scented water and yellow rice.<\/p>\n

The bride\u00b4s father, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, and Brunei\u00b4s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah offered their blessings to the couple in the “sitting in state” ceremony, traditionally the high point of a Malay wedding.<\/p>\n

The Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak also attended the ceremony in the throne room of the Grand Palace.<\/p>\n

The couple made their first public appearance on the palace steps, smiling and waving to around 1,200 reception guests gathered in the garden.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
